Gadgets & Ports


A gadget is a device that has a highly useful definite practical purpose and function. Gadgets are most of the time more useful that normal technology and tend to be unusually designed! Gadgets in the past meant something that was rather big and could not be carried around often without been seen but as we come to the 21st centaury gadgets have become highly developed and can be carried anywhere, anytime with out been seen. Through time people have been developing gadgets and making them smaller and highly efficient as this develops the price of the gadgets also become more and more expensive. Some examples of gadgets are: The Graphic Tablet, Apple ipod, Flash Drives, Blackberry.



Ports

A port is a (computer hardware), setting for passing data and information in and out of any computing gadget. Microprocessors have ports for sending and receiving data, these ports are usually fanatical locations in the memory. A full computer system has ports for connecting minor/peripheral devices such as the printer, scanner, web cams and modems. A port (computer software) is a fundamental data connection that can be used by programs to exchange data immediately, instead of going through a file/s or other short-term storage location. The most popular of these are TCP and UDP which are used to exchange data between computers on the Internet. Each port has a different way of working once they are connected to the devices. If you look closley eacy port has a certain number of pins which had to match the device and if any of the oins are bent or damaged the port won't function as well as it would or it won't function at all. Towards the future the ports in a computer will increase in shape and size, the ports will most likely become smaller and become more efficent.

How are Gadgets and Ports related.


Almost all Gadgets are connected to the computer using the USB port. Gadgets like the Flash Drives, iPods, Scanners, Web Cams, Wirless Mouse, Mp3 Players are connected to the computer using the USB port and the Headsets and Speakers use the Speakers, Line In and Microphone ports. The Joystick has a port of its own known as the Game Port where it can be connected to. The Keyboard and the Mouse have a port called PS/2 ports.VGA ports are used to connect monitors to the CPU but certain monitos now use and USB port to be connected to the computer.
More recent computers had more ports which are similar to the ports on the picture on the right hand side of but they are slightly different in shape and size. The pricture on the left shows a more recent computer system with its ports.
